Australian singer/songwriter Hein Cooper just closed a big year with the release of his album ‘The Art of Escape’. Beginning the year supporting James Bay through Australia to touring with Lukas Graham across his 2017 European and North American tour, he was busy playing festivals through Europe in between. Other shows included accompanying Sunset Sons and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros through Germany/Canada and selling out multiple headline shows in the Uk/Canada and Germany.

His hit single ‘Rusty’ topped Canadian charts in Québec for 48 weeks, the videoclip reached 500k+ views on Youtube and has recently been remixed with French singer Morgane Imbeaud, climbing the French charts since then.

His debut album (TAOE) comes off the heels of Cooper’s debut EP in 2015 (Indica Records). Both records were recorded and produced in Montreal, Canada, with Marcus Paquin - (Local Natives/The National/Arcade Fire). Cooper praises Paquin’s involvement in the record, “It was a really collaborative process, he had a lot of great ideas that built the songs up in a way that got the ideas out of my head and into the record.”

Hein says, “The sound of the record is definitely reflective of where I am now. Spending the year touring and playing live, definitely got me to the point where I’m able to replicate the sound of the record live.”

As for what that sound is, the word “eclectic” comes to mind. Cooper says of his approach, “I don’t like to pigeonhole songs into one style to make them fit... it’s a collection of songs treated individually. I started with folk music, but now I have found myself exploring other styles and feelings.” The Art of Escape was released through Indica Records April 1st, 2016.

Hein is currently finishing his second album in Europe, where he just completed a very successful headlining tour.
